    FORT BLISS, Texas – Western Regional Dental Command (Provisional), welcomed its new commander in a change of command ceremony here, May 20.

    Col. George J. Hucal replaced Col. Michael G. Doran, who is headed to Semback, Germany, to command the European Regional Dental Command.

    “I’m truly happy to be here,” said Hucal, an El Paso native. “It feels like coming home.”

    Hucal has commanded the Dental Activity at Fort Irwin, Calf.; the Vilseck Clinic Command in Germany; the Vilseck Dental Clinic in Germany; the Dental Clinic Command at White Sands Missile Range, N.M.; and the Camp Page Dental Clinic at Chun Chon, South Korea.

    Hucal has also been the deputy dental corps chief and senior dental staff officer at the Office of the Surgeon General; a staff officer for Headquarters, Department of the Army; an Army dental consultant for the U.S. Army Dental Corps Personnel Exchange Program with the British Royal Army Dental Corps in Aldershot, England; a staff dentist at Letterman Army Medical Center, Presidio of San Francisco; and a division dental surgeon with 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kan.

    He is a master of the Academy of General Dentistry and is a fellow in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. He has been certified as a Diplomat of the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry and of the American Board of General Dentistry.

    Hucal is a member of the American Dental Association, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the Association of the U.S. Army and the Military Officers Association of America. He is also a member of the Medical Department Order of Military Medical Merit and is a recipient of the Surgeon General’s “A” proficiency designator.

    His awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Overseas Service Ribbon with third numeral, and National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star. He holds the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Army Staff Identification Badge, and the German Military Proficiency Badge in gold and German Sports Badge in bronze.
