FORT GORDON, Ga. - Swimming lessons provided by the Fort Gordon indoor aquatics center are available to help safely prepare individuals whose summer fun includes activities out and about on the water.

As outdoor temperatures being to rise and the season of summer fast approaches, thoughts of swimming come to mind, and swim lessons provided by the Fort Gordon indoor aquatics center are available to help safely prepare individuals whose summer fun includes activities out and about on the water.

“We’ve been around water since we were born,” said Tamara Moser, assistant aquatics manager. Who explained that the skills taught during swim lessons could potentially increase a child’s chance of survival should they happen to fall into the water.

Parents may bring children ages six-months to three-years-old to the Aqua Tot’s play group, which meets each Thursday from 9:30-10:15 a.m. There must be one adult present per child in attendance.

“We have fun with the children,” she said. “We teach them little games with different techniques and skills.”

Private lessons and group lessons are available for children ages six-months-old and up. Lessons and lap swimming are open to military ID cardholders and the cost of the session attending.

Classes are taught for all skill-levels to include beginners.

Adults who want to learn to swim can schedule lessons for one or two individuals and for group sessions. Service members who are not strong swimmers who are planning to attend ranger school and other training courses with water sequences can attend a swimmer improvement class.

Active-duty units can schedule up to six individual beginner swimmers or advance swimmers for free.

The 50-meter Olympic size pool offers lap swimming during morning and afternoon hours. Kickboards, paddles, noodles and others swimming equipment is available for use.

The indoor aquatics center is located at 25th Street and Barnes Avenue. Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Courtyard outdoor pool is scheduled to open for weekends May 18. After Memorial Day the hours of operation for the indoor aquatic center will be 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 706-791-3034 for more information.
