    SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The New York National Guard will host a Hiring Our Heroes veterans job fair on April 10 at the Thompson Road Armory at Hancock Air National Guard Base.

    The United States Chamber of Commerce event is sponsored by the New York National Guard, CenterState CEO, the New York State Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service, Veterans Outreach Center Inc., Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the American Legion.

    The fair is designed to allow National Guard soldiers and airmen, military Reserve members, active duty service members, veterans and military spouses to submit applications to prospective employers and also learn how to use job-hunting tools.

    The job fair is one of a series of events being held across the country designed to match veterans, military spouses and Reserve and National Guard members up with employers.

    The Hiring Our Heroes employment workshop consists of a classroom session beginning one hour prior to the hiring fair followed by human resources professionals conducting one-on-one mentoring sessions with all pre-registered participants. Mentoring sessions focus on resume building; resume writing, and interviewing techniques for all job-seeking veteran and service member participants.

    The New York National Guard's Job Zone Program will be part of the Hiring Fair as well. The New York National Guard's Employment Initiative Program helps New York National Guard Soldiers and Airmen refine their resumes while providing them with information on employers who want to hire veterans and Guard members. The Job Zone staff also works to help employers understand the skill-sets that veterans and Guard Soldiers and Airmen bring to their businesses.

    Doors to the event open at 1 p.m. and the event runs through 4 p.m.
