MAIDAN WARDAK PROVINCE, Afghanistan - The Afghan National Army special forces assumed independent control of security and the protection of the local villagers in Nerkh district, Maidan Wardak province, March 30.
Over the past six months, the ANASF have conducted numerous counterinsurgency operations that have effectively demonstrated their ability to support the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s initiatives to disrupt insurgent activity and protect the people of Afghanistan.
“It is our desire and it is the desire of the citizens of Nerkh that we take the lead in providing security for the district,” said ANASF company commander Maj. Qismat Katawazei. “We want the people of Nerkh to live happy and prosperous lives. The government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has prepared and equipped us to serve the district effectively. This is a memorable moment, because Afghan-led forces are taking control of the security of their people by themselves.”
These consistent counterinsurgency achievements have shown President Karzai and Ministry of Defense officials that ANASF are capable of managing future increases in security, governance, and development in Nerkh district and Maidan Wardak province.
Capt. Mohammad Abed, an ANASF team leader, also believes that his team is prepared for the task and that long term success is very possible with the continued support of the local villagers.
“With the support of our local people we will be able to provide one hundred percent security for the district,” said Abed. “As we all work together to help increase security within the villages, the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan will be able to implement development projects in the district that will help secure the way to a brighter future.”
