SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – This week’s Third Army/ARCENT Soldier of the Week is Staff Sgt. Marc B. Lafo, Third Army/ARCENT Augmentation Company training noncommissioned officer.
Lafo, a Meriden, Conn., native, joined Third Army/ARCENT in May 2011 after serving at the 1151st Railway Transportation Company in Wilmington, N.C.
“Both parents were in the military, so I felt the need to serve because of them and the military members before me,” said Lafo, “They sacrificed so we could have the freedoms that we all enjoy today. I wanted to do my part to help preserve the American way of life for the generations after myself.”
Q: What is your favorite movie genre?
A: Comedies, there is nothing like returning home after a rough day at work and watching a funny movie to lift my spirits.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: OMG … Chicken wings! (the hotter the better).
Q: What are your goals?
A: I would have to say I have two goals in life, retirement, it’s only a few years away and raising my three children with values and morals. To watch them become responsible adults, knowing that you have to work for everything in life, nothing comes for free.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I would have to say my family, they put up with all the crazy things in my life. I am a geographical bachelor and I know it’s very hard for them. They make the best of it and don’t complain when they really should be. I couldn’t ask for a better or more understanding family!
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: My hobbies are scuba diving, boating, hunting, motocross and I am a volunteer firefighter with the Sumter Fire Department as well as an active member of the Sumter County Dive Rescue Team.
Q: If you could spend one hour with anyone, who would it be and why?
A: I would have to say my daughter, because I missed her birth. I think I would want to go back to that day and hold her, tell her how beautiful she is and how much I love her!
