Story by Spc. James Pierce
WARRIOR BASE, South Korea - Pfc. Matthew Donoghue, a wheeled vehicle mechanic with the Eighth Army Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion Headquarters Support Company, has been in Korea for five months.
He enjoys sampling the local cuisine, especially the seafood and other Korean delicacies of the region.
“I love the food here,” Donoghue said. “There’s lots of seafood, which I really love.”
One of his favorite foods he’s tried since arriving in South Korea has been cold noodles, Donoghue said.
When Donoghue first came to Korea, a local Korean family invited him to their home for dinner followed by a traditional dance performance, an evening he will never forget he said.
In his spare time, Donoghue has started to see some of the sights the surrounding countryside has to offer, such as the visit he made to Yongin Folk Village.
The 22-year-old from Wakefield, Massachusetts also enjoys playing video games, working out and fishing.
“It’s very relaxing, sitting out on a boat with your family, waiting to get that big fish.” Donoghue said.
Though he enjoys fishing and working out, Donoghue’s real passion is working on cars. He enjoys restoring cars back to their former glory and attended an automotive repair school in Boston, Massachusetts to improve upon those skills.
“I really love working on cars.” Donoghue said. “No matter how damaged they are, I love bringing them back to life.”
