    NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan

NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Members of the Afghan National Army Special Forces and the Afghan Border Police killed two insurgents during a Taliban attack on a combined security patrol in Shinwar district, Nangarhar province, March 9.

The combined forces were conducting the patrol to demonstrate Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan support for village security and to support the establishment of Afghan Local police in nearby districts. Several groups of Taliban insurgents engaged the Afghan Forces patrol with small arms, machinegun, and rocket propelled grenade fire. For hours, the Afghan Forces returned fire effectively, killing two insurgents and wounding six others.

“The insurgents wounded an ANASF soldier while ambushing the patrol from various fighting positions throughout the day,” said an ANASF team member. “It was difficult to eliminate the enemy quickly because of their location but we engaged the enemy effectively without any loss of civilian life.”

Afghan National Security Forces conduct combined operations in order to disrupt insurgent activities and enable conditions for improved security, governance, and development across the nation.
No civilian casualties or structural damage was reported during this attack.
