SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. - Team Scott was selected as a test base for 24-hour facility use as part of the Air Force Services transformation initiative.
Beginning Friday, patrons may gain after-hours access to the Fitness Center, Bldg. P-6, with the slide of their Common Access Card. Unmanned times are from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Monday to Friday; Saturday 1 p.m. to 9 a.m.; all day Sunday and holidays.
Gailyn Gonzales, 375th Force Support Squadron fitness director said access will be granted to authorized users in the active duty, Guard and Reserve members on active duty orders for 12 months at a time. Dependents of members on active duty orders, 18 years of age and older, will also be granted access, if accompanied by another authorized user (members on active duty orders).
Service members who enter the building prior to closing but plan to use the gym while it's unattended, will have to swipe their ID card to stay in.
To become an authorized user, individuals from either category must sign a statement of understanding and return it to the Fitness Center staff.
"By signing the statement members agree to abide by fitness center rules," said Gonzalez. "The fitness center director/designee has the right to terminate privileges at any time without notice."
Cameras will monitor what happens in the fitness center during unmanned hours, and actions, such as theft, defacement or intentional damage to government property, sexual assault, inappropriate sexual behavior, nefarious behavior, and violation of rules will not be tolerated. Any criminal conduct is subject to prosecution in federal court. SAFB is not responsible for protection of personal property or safety during these hours.
In case of an emergency, individuals are directed to use the front desk phone but to reduce risks, members are encouraged to use the Wingman Concept.
"This policy is intended to enhance fitness opportunities here at Scott by maximizing facility use without adding cost," said Col. David Almand, 375th Air Mobility Wing commander. "It's incumbent on all Team Scott members to promote the safe and responsible execution of this policy."
This is the first phase of the 24-hour fitness process. After a period of time, the process will be reviewed to consider future civilian access.
