BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Afghan Tribal Leaders facilitated the recovery of three large munitions caches from the Spingard, Khogyani, and Kuz Konar Districts of Nangarhar Province April 18.

Tribal Leaders informed the local Afghan National Police and U.S. Special Forces Soldiers, operating near the city of Jalalabad, that they had munitions caches they wanted to turn in. The munitions were all found in caves located in remote areas of each district and were mostly in unopened containers.

During the past three weeks, more than a dozen munitions caches have been recovered in the Nangarhar Province.

"Afghan Tribal leaders have called upon their people to turn in weapons and munitions not used for personal protection," said Maj. Christopher Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force-82 spokesperson. "The willingness of the Tribal Leaders to police up munitions and turn them in for the betterment of their community is a good indication of increased stability."
