Sgt. Maj. William B. Painter III assumed the duties as the School of Infantry-East sergeant major from Sgt. Maj. Luis “Chino” Leiva during a Relief and Appointment Ceremony held at Ivy Hall on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Jan. 15, 2021. The traditional ceremony included the passing of the noncommissioned officer sword which signifies the transfer of the sacred trust from one sergeant major to another.
