In this week's #FortRileyFriday, we continue our look at facilities constructed around building 500, the garrison headquarters.
Building 510 Richardson Avenue, also known as Grimes Hall, was built in 1931 as nurses quarters reflecting building 500's use at the time as the post hospital. With walls of brick, a foundation of brick and concrete, wood floors and a slate roof, Grimes Hall had a capacity of 13 nurses.
The US Army Corps of Engineers considers building 510 historically significant as an example of the Colonial Revival Style of architecture which became popular in the United States in the early 19th century.
Today, 510 Richardson Ave. is home to Fort Riley's Survivor Outreach Services and the Hall of Heroes, which honors fallen 1ID and Fort Riley soldiers.
#FunFact: Richardson Avenue was previously named Reed Ave. It was rededicated in March 2026 to honor Medal of Honor recipient Command Sgt. Maj. Terry P. Richardson.
