A U.S. CH-47 Chinook helicopter assigned to the 207th Aviation Troop Command, Alaska Army National Guard, lands in Savoonga, Alaska, to deploy U.S. Green Berets assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) during Operation Polar Dagger, Aug. 18, 2026. Special Operations Detachment, Colorado Army National Guard, coordinated the aviation support during the operation. Polar Dagger is a demonstration of rapidly deployable joint U.S. Special Operations Forces to the Alaskan Arctic to refine a range of capabilities and response options to deter, disrupt, degrade, and deny competitor activity in the Arctic in support of U.S. Northern Command and layered defense of the homeland.
