NAVAL AIR STATION SIGONELLA, Italy (July 21, 2026) Components of the SeekIt field kit, designed for use in forward and resource-limited environments. Researchers at Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) EURAFCENT will evaluate the kit's operational capabilities to ensure it meets the rigorous diagnostic demands of military deployments. The kit is intended to provide full laboratory-grade molecular test, to include extraction, amplification and detection, into a portable pouch for use by deployed medical teams, in expeditionary operations, for shipboard use and outbreak surveillance in austere environments. NAMRU EURAFCENT, part of Navy Medicine Research & Development, conducts research, surveillance and studies of vaccines, therapeutic agents, diagnostic assays and vector control measures in the EUCOM, AFRICOM and CENTCOM Areas of Responsibility to better prevent and treat infectious diseases in support of Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health, readiness and lethality.
