When Super Typhoon Bavi made landfall on Rota, the southernmost island in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) were able to respond quickly because additional personnel and resources were pre-positioned along with the resources that were already on the ground due from the earlier Super Typhoon Sinlaku. In coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, USACE installed temporary generators at critical facilities on Rota. On July 26, 2026, Cpt. Alexander Webre, mission commander, Grid Power Team and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Cory Newling (left) from the 249th Engineer Battalion inspect Rota’s power plant. (U.S. Army photo by Monique Freemon)
