Parmer, a retired U.S. Marine Corps public affairs officer, serves as the chairman of the department’s Marketing, Media & Communications Commission. The contest recognizes the communication efforts American Legion Family members do at the post, district and department levels to promote the good of the organization. Since its founding in 1919, The American Legion has been a key advocate for veterans’ benefits, children and youth, patriotic American values, a strong national defense and quality-of-life issues for those serving in today’s armed forces.
