U.S. Army Pfc. Giovanni Diaz, assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, prepares for squad-level training movements at Novo Selo Training Area, Bulgaria, May 28, 2026. The training gave infantry Soldiers an opportunity to practice movement, communication and small-unit leadership while preparing team leaders and squad leaders to direct Soldiers through realistic training scenarios. Before joining the Army at 27, Diaz spent five years as an amateur mixed martial arts fighter in Miami, competing in regional promotions and building a foundation of discipline and composure under pressure that he now brings to military service.
