JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON – (May 21, 2026) – U.S. Army Sgt. Carlos Torres, of Jacksonville, N.C., assigned to the Research Services directorate, Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal by Capt. Michael Tiller, Medical Corps, commanding officer, Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio, during an All Hands held at the Tri-Service Research Laboratory. Torres was awarded the medal for his exceptional leadership and mentorship of junior enlisted soldiers resulting in their remarkable career advancement and professional growth. Additionally, his technical expertise was vital to the successful execution of 10 highly visible research protocols and the flawless accountability of over $2 million in supplies.
