SAN ANTONIO – (May 20, 2026) – Cmdr. Stacy Coulthard, Medical Corps, deputy director of Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio’s Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine directorate, briefed maritime combat casualty care to research scientists from the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research, U.S. Air Force 59th Medical Wing, and University of Louisville at the VelocityTX Innovation Center. NAMRU San Antonio, part of Navy Medicine Research and Development (NMR&D), works alongside research partners in the civilian sphere, academia, industry, and other government agencies to drive support of Department of War objectives for a lethal fighting force and ensure U.S. service members have access to the latest scientific advances. Working alongside a wide range of research and development partners keeps NMR&D abreast of best practices and advances in medical knowledge, so that those practices, products, and the newest information can be implemented on behalf of the warfighter. NAMRU San Antonio, part of NMR&D conducts gap-driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research in support of Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health readiness and lethality while engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
