LAURINBURG, N.C. — Sgt. 1st Class Michael Heath, assigned to the U.S. Army Parachute Team, performs a smoke chain maneuver during training operations near Laurinburg, North Carolina, May 2026, in preparation for Freedom 250 events in Washington, D.C. During the maneuver, Heath flies a high-performance parachute while red, white and blue smoke trails beneath him, creating a layered aerial effect that requires precise canopy control, stable body positioning and exact timing to maintain smoke separation and visual symmetry throughout the descent.
