Lt. Cmdr. Leslye Green, staff obstetrician and gynecologist, Naval Hospital Pensacola, uses a model to discuss cervical cancer with a patient. Cervical cancer is highly preventable because readily available are screening tests and vaccines to protect against human papillomavirus, the main cause of cervical cancer. Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, is the first Defense Health Agency military hospital or clinic to offer women a convenient self-test as an alternative to pelvic exams to test for HPV.
