April 5 is Gold Star Spouses Day. On this solemn day, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) extends its deepest gratitude and heartfelt remembrance to the spouses who have lost their loved ones in service to our nation.
The term "Gold Star" dates back to World War I, when families displayed service flags with a blue star for each family member serving. If a loved one died in service, the blue star was replaced with a gold star, signifying their profound sacrifice. Gold Star Spouses embody unwavering strength, resilience, and patriotism in the face of unimaginable loss.
We honor their enduring courage and the sacrifices made by their fallen heroes. Their loved ones' dedication secured our freedoms, and their spouses continue to carry that legacy with grace and dignity. NNSY stands in solidarity with all Gold Star Spouses, recognizing that their commitment and sacrifice are an integral part of our military family.
Please join us in honoring these extraordinary individuals today and every day.
