Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan – Sgt. Maj. Timothy Rudd, the battalion sergeant major of 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, raises a flag for his father here, June 16, 2013. While several flags were raised for the fathers of the Marines and sailors of “America’s Battalion,” Rudd was the only Marine to individually raise a flag for his father. “For 23 years, I’ve been away from my father every Father’s Day,” said Rudd, a native of Post, Texas. “So this is something that I can give him, even if it’s just symbolically.”
