Planners, engineers, and program personnel from Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command, the Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program (SIOP), and all four U.S. public naval shipyards receive training on the Shipyard Industrial Process Model (SIPM) at the Washington Navy Yard March 4. SIPM simulates how work moves through the shipyards and helps users understand how equipment, facilities and personnel interact during ship maintenance activities. Users can then test different facility layouts and production approaches, which improves plans before beginning construction on SIOP projects. Attendees also provided feedback on how to make the tool easier to use and how to better align it with real-time shipyard planning needs.
