A social media graphic created for an “On This Day,”, to recognize the efforts of Navy Medicine personnel who were immediately deployed to provide critical humanitarian aid and radiological monitoring in Japan following a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that took place on March 12, 2011. The Joint Medical Team, comprised of U.S. and Japanese military partners, worked tirelessly together to provide disaster response and to monitor and reduce the threat of radiation exposure from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. Operation Tomodachi was a complex and trying 52-day mission that showcased the enduring strength of our alliance. (U.S. Navy photo illustration by Bobbie A. Camp)
