The night sky of the Euphrates River lit by illumination rounds fired by Marines assigned to the 3rd Battalion, Fourth Marines, who are assigned security for Seabees attached to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 17. The rounds were fired to light the area to help fellow Marines conduct reconnaissance of the far shore of the river.Seabees from NMCB 17 and the Army 814th Multi-Roll Bridge Company are working together on a large scale bridge building project located in Western Iraq. Seabees attached to NMCB 17 are taking the lead effort in moving an estimated 70 thousand cubic yards of earth to aid in completion of the 300 meter Maybey-Johnson Float Bridge that will span the Euphrates River. When complete, the project will help increase local commerce, trade, and travel for the Iraqi population in the area.
