The renaming ceremony for Fort Hood, formerly Fort Cavazos, took place at the III Armored Corps Headquarters. The ceremony was a tribute to Col. Robert B. Hood, a World War I hero and recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross. Mitzi Huffman, Col. Hood's daughter, received a shell casing from a 1st Cavalry Division Artillery solider. The ceremony was marked by the presentation of flags and the unfurling of the Fort Hood colors. The ceremony was a significant moment in the history of Fort Hood, honoring the legacy of Col. Hood and the dedication of the soldiers who serve there. The ceremony was held on the morning of July 28, 2025, at Fort Hood. (U.S. Army photo by Scott Darling, Fort Hood Public Affairs).
