Staff Sgt. Clifton Perkins, a member of the 284th Quartermaster Company with the Mississippi National Guard, has been supporting the D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission for the past three months. Despite the distance from home, he says the experience has been rewarding, and Thanksgiving duty earlier this week was a highlight.
"I got to meet a lot of leadership," he said. "It was a great experience."
Perkins’ daily role on mission centers on food service support for Guard members operating across the District. His responsibilities include unloading food from delivery trucks, conducting safety and temperature checks, and serving meals to ensure personnel stay fueled and mission-ready.
Outside the uniform, Perkins has served as a police officer with the Jackson Police Department for seven years. He earned his associate degree in social work from Holmes Community College before entering law enforcement.
Perkins has been in the National Guard for 12 years, joining, as he describes it, "just for the experience." Over time, that experience has become something much larger. "The best part about being in the military is meeting new people and getting to travel," he said.
As the D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission continues, Perkins remains committed to supporting his team and the community they serve. (U.S. Army National Guard Photo by Spc. Carrol Walter Hughes IV)
