UNCMAC maintains and enforces the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement which ceased Korean War hostilities and provided a foundation for peacebuilding efforts.
The organization controls Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) access and Military Demarcation Line (MDL) crossings, communicates with (North) Korean People’s Army counterparts, and educates South Korean frontline units, professional military education institutions, government and non-government agencies, US military and civilian personnel, and distinguished visitors on the importance of the Armistice Agreement.
