U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Roberto Tafoya, an explosive ordnance technician with Combat Logistics Battalion 15 assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border from Cathedral City, Calif., was named Task Force Forge’s Defender of the Week in Yuma, Ariz., Sept. 25, 2025, for his exceptional contributions to the southern border mission. Tafoya excelled as the Common Operating Picture Noncommissioned Officer, mastering situational awareness tools and enhancing mission capabilities for over 694 operations. He also assisted in clearing explosive hazards during Weapons and Tactics Instructor course, safely disposing of 553 unexploded ordnance and a 250-pound high-explosive bomb. Beyond his technical expertise, Tafoya demonstrated leadership as a Corporal’s Course and Marine Corps Martial Arts Program instructor, training over 120 Marines. His adaptability and dedication embody the values of the Marine Corps and its mission to ensure national security.
