Naval Station Newport opened its gates to the public for a special concert and fireworks display Aug. 23, 2025. The event was titled Salute to Navy 250 as part of Navy community engagements nationwide leading up to the service's 250th birthday on Oct. 13. The musical performances featured two local bands and the Navy Band Northeast performing contemporary and popular music before the crowd was treated to 20-minute fireworks show. An estimated 8,600 people attended the event.
