The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) FY-26 Planned Incremental Availability Project Team completed its weeklong Integrated Project Team Development (IPTD-1) at the Ronald Reagan Trade Center in Washington, D.C. July 18. This was a major opportunity given Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) will be the first public shipyard to host a Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier for a maintenance availability. The focus areas of this IPTD were to develop leaders and to create a high-performing integrated project team; linking the team to Navy leadership perspectives; and tactical and strategic work on the project that can be done through exercises and team building. Approximately 50 participants including project team members and NNSY leaders took part in this event. “The weeklong event plays huge dividends in building the Ford Team across multiple stakeholders [including NNSY, Ship’s Force, Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center, and the contractors],” said CVN 78 Project Superintendent B.J. Baker. “The relationships built during these events start building the culture of Ford Team that will be carried throughout our availability.”
