U.S. Army soldiers patrol the streets of New Orleans, La., in support of Hurricane Gustav relief efforts on Sept. 1, 2008. The troops deployed to help residents evacuate the area, to provide security before, during and after the hurricane's landfall and to conduct search and rescue missions in the area. The soldiers are assigned to the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Louisiana Army National Guard.
