President George W. Bush (right) presents the Medal of Honor to Daniel and Maureen Murphy, the parents of U.S. Navy Lt. Michael Murphy, a Navy SEAL killed during a reconnaissance mission near Asadabad, Afghanistan, on June 28, 2005, during a ceremony at the White House on Oct. 22, 2007. Murphy is the first service member to receive the medal for actions during Operation Enduring Freedom and the first Navy recipient of the medal since Vietnam. Daniel and Maureen Murphy accepted the posthumous award on behalf of their son.
