    U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Aurora Chavez (right) explains the plotting of the position of the USS Thomas S. Gates (CG 51) to Peruvian Navy Lt. j.g. Gustavo Mejia while underway in the Pacific Ocean for Exercise Panamax '05 on Aug. 11, 2005. Fifteen nations are participating in the exercise, which is designed to develop responses to threats against the Panama Canal. Chavez is a Navy quartermaster. Mejia is visiting the Gates from the Peruvian ship BAP Villavisencio (FM 52).
