Aviation ordnancemen hold a cargo tether steady for connection to an HH-60 Seahawk during a vertical replenishment between USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and USNS Kiska (T-AE 35), on July 24, 2004. Vertical evolutions replenish stores, ammunition and even mail and personnel between ships under way. The Kitty Hawk Strike Group is involved in Summer Pulse '04, a U.S. Navy exercise where seven aircraft carrier strike groups will learn new ways of operating, training, manning and maintaining their fleet. This is part of the Navy's new Fleet Response Plan that will train the fleets to provide assistance in a national emergency or crisis.
