Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld stresses the importance of the memorandum of understanding he just signed with Department of Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao. The document signed on July 11, 2003, in the Pentagon will ease re-entry into the civilian workforce by military personnel. The memorandum will strengthen Department of Labor efforts to support returning reservists' job search, expand American's Job Bank to include recruiting for military jobs, expand Department of Labor employment infrastructures to support employment of military spouses, and encourage corporate America to hire returning reservists and military spouses.
