Navy Petty Officer Josef Edmunds waves to the crowd welcoming him and his fellow crew members of the detained EP-3 to Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, on April 12, 2001. The crew will stay in Hawaii for military debriefings before a final reunion with families and friends on the mainland. The crew was detained for 11 days after their EP-3 Aries II reconnaissance aircraft made forced landing on Hainan Island as a result of a collision with a Chinese F-8 fighter aircraft. Edmunds, a Navy Cryptological Technician, is from Davis, Calif.
