An F/A-18 Hornet becomes a blur in front of the flight deck crew as it is catapulted from the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) on May 16, 1999, for an Operation Southern Watch mission. Kitty Hawk and its embarked Carrier Air Wing 5 are on station in the Persian Gulf in support of Southern Watch which is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq.
