Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen (right) meets with some of the crew in the hangar deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) on Oct. 9, 1998. The aircraft carrier is operating in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch, which is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq. Cohen is visiting U.S. ships and commands while he is in the Gulf region to meet with defense and national leaders.
