The USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3), shown in this June 1987 file photo, is currently deployed to the South China Sea for participation in Exercise Cobra Gold 98. Cobra Gold 98 is the latest in a continuing series of U.S. -Thailand military exercises designed to ensure regional peace and strengthen the ability of the Royal Thai armed forces to defend Thailand. The Belleau Wood, a Navy amphibious assault ship, is ready to assist in the evacuation of American citizens in Indonesia if needed.
