An Owl MK II Unmanned Surface Vehicle cuts through the waters of Mile Hammock Bay, New River, N.C., in a demonstration of it's marine reconnaissance capabilities during Riverine Interoperability Operation Exercise '98 on May 14, 1998. The Camp Lejeune exercise, more commonly known as RIOEX, allows forces an opportunity to practice conventional combat operations in a riverine environment. The remotely controlled Owl MK II is being developed by Navtec, Inc. for the Office of Naval Research.
