The amphibious dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51), shown in this 1996 file photo, will depart Norfolk, Va., today, en route to the waters off Long Island to assist in the search and recovery of victims and wreckage from TWA Flight 800. The Oak Hill will serve as an afloat command post and at-sea base of operations for the Navy support effort. The 609-foot-long ship joins the USS Grasp and Navy diving, salvage and explosive ordnance disposal units, already on site, or en route. Commissioned in June 1996, the Oak Hill is a multi-purpose amphibious ship that can support boat operations from its flooded well deck and helicopters from it flight deck. U. S. Navy File Photo.
