A sailor from the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) hits the slope during a sand skiing tour in the desert dunes outside of Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates on April 9, 1996, as other sailors line the top of the sand dune for their turn. The George Washington is paying a port visit to Jebel Ali while deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch. Southern Watch is the U.S. and coalition enforcement of the no-fly-zone over Southern Iraq.
