Lt. Col. Daniel Munoz, the 188th Operations Group commander, discusses the 184th Attack Squadron's recent USAF-level award with two local media outlets. The 184th Attack Squadron, based at Ebbing Air National Guard Base, Arkansas, was awarded the prestigious 2024 General Atomics Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) Trophy, recognizing it as the top RPA squadron across all U.S. Air Force active duty, Guard, and Reserve units.
The 184th Attack Squadron, part of the 188th Wing, distinguished itself through exceptional performance, executing 314 combat sorties and providing 5,972 hours of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance in support of three named operations. The squadron made history as the first unit tasked by the President of the United States to provide overwatch for humanitarian aid airdrops and led the Air Force in MQ-9 non-traditional defensive counter-air and counter-small unmanned aerial system engagements, conducting 66% of all such missions. These achievements highlight the squadron’s cutting-edge combat capabilities and its pivotal role in advancing future RPA operations.
“I am immensely proud of the efforts and flexibility of the Airmen in the 184th Attack Squadron and the amazing support from the 188th Wing and state civilian and military leadership to earn the title of Best RPA Squadron in the Air Force,” said Lt. Col. Daniel Munoz, 188th Operations Group commander. “Their unmatched professionalism and warfighter mentality exemplify the power of Total Force Integration, delivering unparalleled mission success and providing consistent short-notice RPA capability overseas. Another great example of how much the Air National Guard can offer to current missions, while posturing resilient RPA capability for future mission needs.”
The General Atomics RPA Trophy recognizes the 184th Attack Squadron’s outstanding contributions to national defense and its leadership within the MQ-9 community. Known as the “Flying Razorbacks,” the squadron’s accomplishments underscore the critical role of the Arkansas Air National Guard in delivering innovative and resilient airpower.
