This year as we celebrate the Army’s 250th birthday, we pay tribute to the service men and women and their rich military legacy of dedicated service.
U.S Army Master Sgt. David Kaman serves as the 1st Armored Division, Division Tactical Operations Center (DTAC) Operations Sergeant Major.
“I think, like many jobs, you join for the experience, but you stay for the people. Being a part of a tight knit group of individuals who you would literally go to war with is no small connection,” said Kaman “You are accepted as part of the team immediately and it is like you have known that group of Soldiers your entire life.”
Kaman’s military legacy includes an older brother who dedicated 23 years in the Connecticut National Guard, a paternal grandfather who served as a Seabee in the Navy during WWII, a maternal great grandfather who served in WWI many others who served honorably dating back to the American Civil War.
He says that in some respects his rich family military history has contributed to his desire to serve his country. “I know they would be proud of my service as I am of theirs,” said Kaman. “And it sometimes keeps me going when I feel like slowing down.”
