Dr. Troy Akers, a Defense Health Agency civilian employee, is presented the Hero of Military Medicine Award by Dr. David Smith, acting director, Defense Health Agency, and Joseph Caravalho, president and CEO of the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, at an awards ceremony on May 8 at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. The annual Heroes of Military Medicine awards recognize outstanding contributions by senior leaders, medical professionals, and civilians working in the Department of Defense.
