NORFOLK, Virginia (April 24, 2025) Seaman Christopher Johnson (left) and Seaman Jaeden Norwood, both assigned to USS San Antonio (LPD 17), paint and preserve the hull of the San Antonio, April 24. San Antonio is the lead ship of its class of amphibious transport dock and first ship of the United States Navy to be named for the city of San Antonio, Texas. San Antonio is part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group which deters aggression, projects power through presence abroad, and executes contingency missions with its Marine Corps team in support of U.S. strategic interest around the world.
