USS Ross (DDG 71), USS Curts (FFG 38), and USS Norfolk (SSN) participated in the photography exercise (PHOTOEX) for the U.S. Navy and PNS Badr(D-184), PNS Shahjahan (D-186), and PNS Nasr (A-47) participated for the Pakistani Navy. Pakistan and U.S. Naval forces began Exercise Inspired Union 2008 in the North Arabian Sea May 11, which will focus on air, surface and anti-submarine training. Ross is one of six ships in the Nassau Strike Group, operating in the Navy's 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations (MSO). MSO helps develop security in the maritime environment, which promotes stability and global prosperity. These operations complement the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations and seek to disrupt violent extremists' use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
