Senior Airman Shawn Fleming, an in-flight refueling specialist assigned to the 93rd Air Refueling Squadron, hooks up a hammock in preparation for a deployment from Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, Feb. 25, 2025. To safely sleep on long flights, airmen often create makeshift hammocks using cargo straps and existing tie-down points inside the aircraft. Fairchild AFB is home to one of the first wings to serve as an Air Expeditionary Wing under the Air Force Force Generation Model. This new model is a step toward creating a capable and sustainable force for the future warfighting mission and enhances the readiness and capabilities of the Joint Force.
