For Pfc. Santiago Ramirez, the Army is more than just a job—it’s a bridge to a career he’s been thinking of for years. Originally from Colombia, Ramirez has been in the military for two and a half years. He serves as a motor transport operator in the 1067th Composite Truck Company, 228th Transportation Battalion, 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
Long before putting on the uniform, he spent a decade as a mechanic. Now, he’s thinking about taking his skills to the next level by earning his commercial driver’s license.
"The Army is the best place to dip my toes in and try it out," Ramirez said. "I also wanted a career change, but I didn’t want to go too extreme."
With family members who are truck drivers, Ramirez has seen firsthand the opportunities that come with the profession. The military has provided him with hands-on experience in transportation and logistics, reinforcing his decision to explore this career path.
